Piamenta, "The Hasidic Hedrix" @ The Note
The Piamenta Band: With his long beard and colorful Bukharian kippah, Yossi Piamenta is a famed Orthodox musician who has had a most un-orthodox career. Born into a Yerushalmi clan, Piamenta was discovered in Tel Aviv by jazz great Stan Getz and plucked from Israel's musical obscurity. Labeled the Sephardic Santana, Piamenta has performed with the greats of the rock world and is a beloved figure in the "Jam Band" scene. Wielding his Fender electric guitar like a paintbrush, Piamenta's evocative, rhythmic middle eastern tinged pyrotechnics splash color and light, energy and identity across the sonic canvas. The result is reminiscent of Steve Vai, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani and Santana. Informed by Hasidism and the sound of Bedouin villages, Piamenta is a distinct sound in rock music today.
