YIDcore: Ozzie Jewish Punk @ Chase Cafe, Phyllis Musical Inn

Tzitzit: Voices from the Jewish Fringe kicks off with YIDcore a band that turns a few sacred cows into kosher hamburgers. All the way from Melbourne Australia, YIDcore performs all the songs you learned at Hebrew school or overnight camp as rock anthems ala Me First and the Gimme Gimme's.

If you ever thought your Seder needed a little less Matzo and a lot more Manischewitz, YIDcore is a must see. It's Oi! meets Oy! as the band turns sacred sows into kosher hamburger in supports of its new EP.

Crowd favorites include Fiddler's If I Were a Rich Man, a wild cover of Mordechai ben David's Just One Shabbes, Yerushalayim Shel Zahav and a scorching HaTikvah that would turn Noam Chomsky into an ardent Zionist.

YIDcore will also perform a July 12th show at Phyllis' Musical Inn (1800 W. Division).

Sharing the bill with YIDcore is the Chicago band that redefines "The Way Jews Rock:"Even Sh'siyah. Their middle-eastern flavored hippie-rock grooves will spin you like a Whirling Dervish. If you like the sounds of Ekoostic Hookah, you must check out their kind kosher karpas.
